The Knob Noster School District decided to utilize the relationship with Whiteman Air Force Base to revive a mentoring program that had been a great success in the past. The Panther Partners Mentoring Program has utilized over fifty mentors from Whiteman Air Force Base and the Knob Noster community to provide positive relationships with students of all grade levels. Dr. Kristee Lorenz shares, "The mentoring program has provided many students with positive role models and advocates as well as provided tutoring assistance and extra support during times of life transitions. Thank you to Colonel Randall Sparks, Diane Munley, and our outstanding counseling team for facilitating the full implementation of this important student success program."

To celebrate the success of the first year, the Knob Noster School District hosted a BBQ for the mentors, students and their families. Students had the opportunity to introduce their mentors to their families and provide them with a certificate of appreciation. One Whiteman Elementary student stated, "It was super fun! I want the same mentor in Middle School!" Stephanie, a Knob Noster Middle School student, stated, “I think it’s cool how you get to talk to someone about how you’re doing in school. They help you become a better person.” The district had great feedback from mentors, parents and students about the program. Another Whiteman Elementary student said, "It was a nice thing to look forward to on Thursday's. I hope we get to do it again." Aiden, from the middle school, also expressed interest in participating next year, “I had fun! I got help with my homework and we got to play games. I think I might want to do it next year.”

The district is planning to continue the program during the next school year and is still looking for positive mentors to participate. If you are interested in volunteering you can contact Amanda
